LEVITICUS 11-20

Today is Wednesday and I'm reading in Leviticus 11-20.  Here are a few thoughts for today:
1) CLEAN & UNCLEAN- In these chapters, we see that God stresses what is clean and what is unclean.  He starts by stressing all the things that are unclean.  In chapter 11, we see the word "unclean" 31 times, and "abomination" 11 times.  In chapter 13, the priest is to "pronounce" the leper clean or unclean.  The phrase "pronounce him" is used 18 times in chapter 13.  In chapter 15, the phrase "unclean" or "uncleanness" are used 38 times!  God wanted His people to know what was displeasing to Him.  In reality, God is sharing what is bad for His people to partake in.  He is making laws to spare them!  All in all, "unclean" is found 110 times in Leviticus, "uncleanness" 18 times, "abomination" 13 times, and clean 46 times.

2) SEXUAL IMMORALITY- We know that the Bible tells us that sex is a gift, but a gift for marriage.  It was meant to knit the souls of a husband and wife together, not just for physical pleasure, though that is definitely a bonus.  In Leviticus 18, we see when sex is not allowed.  Not with a relative (brother, sister, mother, father, mother-in-law, father-in-law, son, daughter, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, etc.)  (Chapter 20 will tell us these things are punishable by death!)  Not with mankind and mankind, or womankind with womankind, this is an abomination to the LORD.  vs. 22  Not with they neighbor, or his wife, and not with beasts of any kind.  This chapter is very clear and blunt, but we need this kind of teaching again for our day.  We are seeing the destruction of the home as sex is taken to the streets with whoever is available.  This destroys society, and God knew this!

3) I AM THE LORD- In Leviticus chapter 19, we see the phrase "I am the LORD your God" mentioned 16 times!  God wants His people to know who is telling them the laws.  It is not made up by man, it is given us by God!  Let us act accordingly.

LEVITICUS

Well, it is Wednesday, but here is Tuesday's blog:

In reading Levitcus 1-10, there are a few things I would like to share:

1) ACCOMPLICES- This is someone who doesn't do a crime, but goes along with a crime.  They too are guilty even thought they did not do the crime.  They are an accomplice to the fact of the crime.  We get this from the Bible.  Leviticus 5:1 says:  "And if a soul sin, and hear the voice of swearing, and is a witness, whether he hath seen or known of it; if he do not utter it, then he shall bear his iniquity."
2) 20% MORE- God had a way of dealing with cheating and stealing.  The person caught would have to return the value plus 20% more.  We call that restitution.  It seems that it is only paid to the court these days, but God had a better plan.  If the thief spent it, then you could go into his house and take the value plus 20% more.  If he did not have the value that he stole, he would have to work it off as your servant till the debt and 20% more was worked off.  I KNOW that this plan would work.... it came from God and is found in Leviticus chapter 6.
Well, the first ten chapters of Leviticus have a lot to talk about the different sacrifices, so these items are all I have to share today.  God bless!  Pastor Mike Mutchler
