II Samuel

An overcast day so far, but it will clear up I'm sure.  I'm reading in II Samuel, and here is a thought or two:

1) OUR SINS FIND US OUT- In II Sam. 1, King Saul is killed.  He is killed by an Amalekite, the very people, God sent him on a mission to destroy in I Sam. 15.  In that chapter, we see Saul's incomplete obedience and God calls it the same as witchcraft.  It is wicked!  Well, now it finds Saul out and the man who kills him is an Amalakite. How do you keep sin from finding you out?  By confessing it and forsaking it.  It's a battle, but let the battle begin!

2) LOWLY PLACES TO LOFTY HEIGHTS- II Sam. 7:8- "... I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, to be ruler over my people, over Israel."  Isn't that what God has done for all of us.... taken us from lowly places and used us in ways we could never imagine?  Well, that's my testimony anyway!

3) THINKING ABOUT DOING RIGHT- David did.  In II Sam. 13:39 it says:  "And the soul of king David longed to go forth unto Absalom:"  But.... he didn't!  We all think about doing right, but some put action to their thoughts and that is what makes all of the difference.  Don't just think about it.  "To him that knoweth to do right, but doeth it not, to him it is sin."
Do it!  Adopt the Nike slogan:  "Just do it!"

4) HER WISDOM.... HIS HEAD- In II Sam. 20, Joab is attacking a city because Sheba the son of Bichri has entered into that city.  Now Joab is besieging the city to destroy the people and Sheba.  But, a woman calls forth and asks "Why?"  Joab says:  "deliever him only, and I will depart from the city.  And the woman said unto Joab, Behold, his head shall be thrown to thee over the wall."  (vs. 21) And in verse 22- "Then the woman went unto all the people in her wisdom.  And they cut off the head of Sheba the son of Bichri, and cast it out to Joab."  It was her wisdom.... and his head!  Be very careful around a wise woman!!

Well, so much for today.  Have a blessed day and walk with God!  Pastor Mike Mutchler
