LUKE

Today is Sunday!  I love Sundays!  It is Senior Sunday and we are honoring all of those over 55 years of age.  It will prove to be a great day.  Today I am reading in Luke, and each chapter is filled with so many wonderful truths about Jesus.  I love it!  Here are just a few that I marked down out of the many for each chapter:
1) WHAT MANNER OF MAN!  Luke 8:25 says:  "What manner of man is this!  for he commandeth the winds and water, and they obey him."  In essence, the people were asking:  "Who is this man?" Now keep in mind that wind and water are the two most powerful forces in God's creation.  Tornadoes, Hurricanes, floods, busted dams, tsunamis, etc.  These things are powerful and can bring about great destruction, but for Jesus.... these are things to play with.  He controls them!  No one but Jesus has such power.  Look to Him with confidence, He is powerful enough to meet your need.  He is the God-Man.  The sinless Son of the Living God.  The Messiah.  The Savior of the World.  My Lord, and my God! Jesus!
2) WHO AM I?  In Luke 9:20, it says:  "He said unto them, But who say ye that I am?  Peter answering said, The Christ of God."  Now Jesus asks His disciples who do men say that He is.  And, in verse 19, Jesus hears that some think He is John the Baptist, some Elijah, and some one of the old prophets.  Then the question is asked, who do you think I am?  Now this is the question each one of us must ask.  We might ask "Who is this man?" like they did in chapter 8, but we must come up with an answer.  I'm so thankful that at the age of nine, I knew Him to be the Christ of God!  I trusted Him as my personal Lord and Savior, how about you?  All other answers are unacceptable.
3) LET GOD TELL US- In these verses dealing with who Jesus is, we come to Chapter 9:35, and it says:  "And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son:  hear him."  Notice the progression of thought.... The people ask "What manner of man is this!"; Then Jesus asks:  "Whom say the people that I am?" in 9:18; Then Jesus asks:  "But whom say ye that I am?" in 9:20, and finally God the Father sets it totally straight, but voicing from Heaven the truth:  "This is my beloved Son:  hear him."  Wow!  Isn't that wonderful?  We don't have to wonder who Jesus is, the Father tells us!  Praise the LORD forever!
4) ME FIRST- One final thought.... In Luke 9:57-62, we have teaching about following Jesus.  It starts with a man saying: "Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest."  Then Jesus says to another: "Follow me."  Then we read another said:  "Lord, I will follow thee;"  Now, here comes the problem.  Twice, vs. 59 & vs. 61, we see the phrase "me first".  We cannot follow Jesus when we have a "me first" attitude.  That is our problem.  To follow, it must be "Jesus first"!  So, let us be mindful that we are not seeking our lives to be brighter, but our lives to reflect the light of Christ!
Well, all of this writing only came from two chapters and there was so much more I wanted to share.  May God grand you a great day this Sunday!  Blessings upon you friend.  Pastor Mike Mutchler
