JOB

Today, I am flying out of Portland to LA, CA.  From there I will be picked up to go to West Coast Baptist College and preach in Chapel tomorrow morning, and then fly back in the afternoon.  Pray for me that God would use me to speak to the hearts of the young students in Bible College.  Here are some thoughts from Job today:

1) SOWING AND REAPING- Another example of this is found in Job 4:8:  "Even as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same."  Job had observed this, but we have been told this from Scripture:
Galatians 6:7  "Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap."
2) JUST A SHADOW-In Job 8:9, Job gives us a rather thoughtful verse:  "(For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days upon earth are a shadow:)"  It so jumped out at me this morning, and I thought, why have I never noticed this verse before?  I love it.  It is philosophical, it is thought provoking, it is instructional, it was a blessing to my heart!  David understood this truth when he said:  Psalms 39:4  "LORD, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is; that I may know how frail I am."
3) MUD ON YOU?  Do you ever feel muddy?  I mean, do you love God with all of your heart, and yet sometimes find yourself slipping into some old habits, or thinking some "unholy" thoughts?  Speaking words of gossip instead of that which edifies?  Well, .... sure.  Sometimes we are not what we want to be.  Job's friend, Bildad, understood this and said in Job 8:11 "Can the rush grow up without mire?  can the flag grow without water?"  The idea is that the rush is going to have some mud upon it because it grows in mud!  We are going to have some earthly residue upon us because we live on earth!!  I know we are in the world, but not of the world, but we still live in the world, and it will always work to affect us..... and it will!  So, do we yield to it... NO!  We fight it, but still.... we live with the understanding that we will have some mud upon us from time to time!!  Look up Job 15: 14 & 16 too.

4) DEATH AWAITS US- A sober thought, but one we should think about.  In Job 16:22 it says:  "When a few years are come, than I shall go the way whence I shall not return."  Also, in Job 17:13 it says:  "If I wait, the grave is mine house:"  The idea is that death awaits us, but till then, we should be busy for God.  We are to go out working and loving Jesus.

Hope you have a blessed day!  Pastor Mike Mutchler
