PROVERBS

Today is Saturday.  Tomorrow is Sunday!  God and Country Day.  Big patriotic goings on at Grand View Baptist Church.  I love it!  I am reading in Proverbs this morning, and I have marked up many items, but will share just a few of them with you.  Proverbs is a book of wisdom.  It is Solomon writing to his son Rehoboam and the Holy Spirit using it to write to us what we need to hear as well.  It is full of truth that must be read, re read, and digested slowly.  It is so rich.  It is like cheesecake... you cannot eat a lot at one sitting; it is too rich!  So savor the Proverbs.  Read it over and over and over, and each time, more wisdom will be imparted to you from the LORD.  Here are my thoughts to share:

1) HE TAUGHT ME- In Prov. 4:4, Solomon says of his father, King David:  "He taught me...."  And in verses 4-9, he shares what David taught him.  It was David who taught Solomon his son:  verse 7 "Wisdom is the principal thing;  therefore get wisdom:  and with all thy getting get understanding."  David put into the heart of Solomon a passion for wisdom.  It was David who told his son to seek wisdom to one day rule the nation.  When Solomon asked God for wisdom, that desire came from his father's instruction.  HE TAUGHT ME....    Dear friend,  What are we teaching our children and grand children?  Are we teaching them the truths that we have learned?  Or, are we letting them branch out and find their own truths?  Beware!  Certainly we can only influence effectively those who live under our roofs, but let us be careful to do that persistently.  Let us teach the next generation.  How about Sunday School?  Be a teacher and impart the truth!

2) LET IT TALK WITH THEE- In Prov. 6:22, Solomon is talking about God's commandments and he says:  "When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee."  I draw your attention to that phrase:  "it shall talk with thee".  God's Word will talk with you!  God will speak to your heart through His Word!  IF you will get the Word into you, it will speak to you!  It sure spoke to my heart this morning.  First of all I was tired and wanted to sleep in a little, but I felt God's Word calling to me.  Strange, but that is exactly how I felt about it.  Then as I read God's Word, it spoke to me.... it speaks!

3) EARLY- Proverbs 8:17 says:  "I love them that love me:  and those that seek me early shall find me."  I guess early is relative to people, but God wants to meet with us at the beginning of our day.  Those who meet Him early shall find Him.  What a powerful truth.  Now, I am usually a night person.  I rarely get to bed before 11:30pm, and I try to get seven hours of sleep if I can.  But regardless.... God still wants to meet with me early.  So when I get up to read, no one else is up usually.  I may not get my typing all done early, but my reading comes first.  Thank you God for meeting with me early this morning.

Well, these three will be all I will share this morning.  I hope you have a great day!  Pastor Mike Mutchler
