ENJOYING THE PSALMS

Yesterday was a wonderful day at Grand View Baptist Church.  We had author Josh McDowell with us and he shared with us why we can intellectually place total confidence that the Bible we hold in our hands is the Bible that was written 2000 and plus years ago, and that the truth it contains is indeed truth!  It was a very well presented, logical, and biblical presentation.  Then in the 11:00am hour, he gave his testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and then I gave an invitation and led people in a sinners prayer, and almost 20 adults committed to trust Jesus Christ as their Savior.  The auditorium was packed and we put up another 100 chairs.  Without a doubt, it was the most we ever had packed in our 800 seat auditorium.  God blessed and the day was all we hoped it would be.  Thanks for your prayers on the matter.  Continue to pray that God will send us back several of the many, many visiting families.
In reading in Psalms, there are some verses I would like to comment on:
1) GOD PROVIDES FOR HIS OWN- Psalms 37:25 says:  "I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread."  God takes care of His own.  We don't always have it in the pantry or the freezer, but God puts it on the table at just the right time.  He provides our needs and many times, gives us our wants... if we delight in Him.  Psalms 37:4 says:  "Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart."  Here we see the wants supplied conditionally.  We can rest in God with all confidence, that He will get us through the challenges of life.  "Tis Grace hath brought us safe thus far, and grace will lead us home."  I love that verse in Amazing Grace!
2) NIGHT SONGS-Psalms 42:8 says:  "... and in the night his song whall be with me,"  God gives us a song, and He gives us a song in the night.  Now we can see by that that God gives us a song in our darkest night; but, plainly it simply means that during the night God often gives us a song.  I sometimes am kept awake for many hours at night when I should be sleeping I find myself singing.  Usually just a phrase or two of a song that was sung that week at Church or one I heard at Church.  I don't always appreciate singing instead of sleeping, (going over and over and over in my mind), but.... God gives us songs in the night!  I had better stop complaining and start realizing that God has a method and reason for everything He does and I had better learn to enjoy these songs in the night.  Thank you Jesus for teaching me this.
3) SHOULD WE SING?  Psalms 47:6 says:  "Sing praises to God, sing praises:  sing praises unto our King, sing praises."  I think God's Word is telling us something.... sing praises!!
Well, that's all for today.  Today is president's day, and we have the day off at Church and School.  Hope you have a blessed day as well.   Pastor Mike Mutchler
