DEUTERONOMY AND JOSHUA

As I am reading this morning, it is a quite Saturday morning.  We have not had prayer breakfast now for a few weeks because our kitchen was taken out with busted pipes.  It looks like it could go up to $100,000.00 dollars in repairs, but that will prove to be a blessing in disguise.  We will be enlarging our kitchen with an additional 8x17 feet and putting in commercial appliances.  This will be a great blessing!
I'm reading in Deuteronomy and Joshua, and as I read this morning, I marked down more thoughts that I could possibly share.  I think this year, I will probably focus on just one or two thoughts per day, and develop them just a little more.  I don't want to write so much that it becomes a matter of time to read it all.  Shorter, and to the point perhaps.... we will see!
GOD CONFIDENCE- Nothing is more over rated than self-confidence.  It is totally useless in the Christian life.  We need God confidence, not self confidence.  In fact, we are told not to put confidence in the flesh.  In Deut. 31, we see that Moses had great confidence in God.  He is talking to Joshua and here are a few things he says: vs. 3- "The LORD thy God, he will go over before thee," (God's presence); vs. 6- "He will not fail thee, nor forsake thee."  (God's power and presence); vs. 8- "he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee;"  (again, God's power and presence)  Moses did not have confidence in his ability, nor in Joshua's ability, but in God's ability!  This is where we need to be in life.  "What time I am afraid, I will remember the name of the LORD my GOD.  The LORD is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear?  The LORD is the strength of my life, of whom shall I be afraid?  Some trust in horses, and some in chariots, but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.  I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."
THE POWER OF SONG-In Deut. 31, God also instructs Moses to write a song and teach it to the children of Israel.  In chapter 32, we have the song given to us to read as well.  God tells Moses that once he has taught it to the children, they will remember it forever.  Wow!  The power of song... I still remember the songs I was taught as a child.  They were great songs with a great message, and all these years, they have instilled faith in me!
LORD, thank you for this day.... it your day, and I want to live it for you to the fullest.  Help me, guide me, strengthen me.... I have no confidence in myself LORD, but my eyes are upon YOU!  You are my hope and confidence.  Thank you Lord, I love you!
Have a blessed day!  Pastor Mike Mutchler
