Psalms 51-72
We had a wonderful week in VBS! About 350 showed up each night and it was a blessing as many of the children made decisions for Christ. (about 75% of them) The workers did an outstanding job! This morning, I was reading in Psalms, and I noticed that several passages were used of the LORD in the New Testament as well. It shows that the New Testament men studied the scriptures that they had (the Old Testament) and that the Holy Spirit used the same message many times in the New Testament as well! Here are a few cases of it: Ps. 52:2-4 speaks about the tongue like James 3:2-10 speaks of the tongue. Ps. 53:1-3 speaks of none that doeth good, no not one, just like Romans 3:10-18 speaks about the same subject. Ps. 68:1 speaks about GOD arising and His enemies scattering, just like Moses said in Numbers 10:33. and ... Ps. 68:18 is the verse mentioned in Eph. 4:8. You see, it is just like us reading the Bible and then quoting pieces of it: Eye for an eye; whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap; etc. Psalms 57:7- My heart is fixed! David said that several times in the Psalms, and it reminds us that we too should have a fixed heart! I hope our hearts are fixed on Jesus, His Church, His Word, His Mission, and His Will for our lives!! Dear Lord, help my heart to stay FIXED!! LONGING FOR GOD- I guess what we most love about the Psalms is David's heart for God. It is what challenges us. It is what convicts us. To have that same longing for God. He said in Psalms 63:1 "O GOD, thou art my GOD; early will I seek thee: my sould thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is" and in verse 6 he says: "When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches." and verse 8 says: "My soul followeth hard after thee:" WOW!! Dear Lord, please help my heart not only to be fixed, but help me to have that same longing for YOU that David did. Help me to think of you constantly. Help me to long after thee! What a challenge for all of us today. Well, so much for today. Hope you have a blessed day and remember.... tomorrow is Sunday!! We get to go to church!! Pastor Mike Mutchler |
