Hebrews and James

I'm on my second cup of coffee, and I just read Hebrews and James.  Hebrews can be summarized in one word: "better".  It is showing that Jesus Christ is better than the Old Testament sacrifices.  So many reasons are given and the logical presentation of the book is great.  Hebrews is a harder book to understand and thus takes more time in study, but once you invest time into it, it is a book full of wonderful truths.  Chapter one forcefully states that Jesus is God!  God the Father speaks to God the Son and says:  "Thy throne O God is…"  God the Father ought to know if Jesus is God and since He says He is who is anyone to argue against the deity of Christ?  Chapter three verse one says:  "consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;" and from this verse on we see the comparison of Jesus as our High Priest and the Old Testament priesthood.  Jesus is an eternal priest, having no beginning and no end.  Jesus offered the perfect sacrifice, Himself.  Jesus offered no offering for Himself, He was without sin.  Jesus offered Himself once for all time, for all people…. Because He is God He can do that once!!  The OT priest offered sin offerings many times and even for themselves.  Hebrews 4:12 tells us:  "Tor the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword,…" Wow!  The Bible is powerful and I love the way it is described here.  Chapter seven tells us that Christ is able to "save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him".  Jesus saves completely!! Anyone who comes to Him!
Chapter ten tells us:  "For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry."  Jesus is coming again! Chapter eleven is the hall of heroes of the faith.  What a blessing to read about these heroes.  James is about faith and works and how true faith brings forth works.  He said he would show others his faith by his works.  True faith eventually brings forth works just like a fruit tree brings forth!  James also tells us how dangerous a member is the tongue, and ends with us looking for the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.  I enjoyed reading this morning again, it is such a blessing to start off the day in God's precious Holy Word.  Hope to see you again tomorrow.  Only two more days and we have to start in Genesis again.  Each time I read the Bible through, I get more wonderful truths to share with others and apply to my own life.  May God bless you today, I'm getting another cup of coffee!!  Pastor Mike Mutchler
