GENESIS

Another Monday morning with a new week ahead of me.  So glad for the time at Church yesterday, and now for another great week ahead.  Just met with one banker, and we are looking into a long term, low interest loan to take place within this next year.  God will provide and work out the details.  I read in Genesis this morning and here are just three thoughts for today:   1) WISER?  In Genesis 3:6, the Bible says: "And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise,..."  Notice with me Genesis 2:9 "And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food;..."  What Eve saw in this tree is what God created every tree to be:  "pleasant to the sight, and good for food".  So, the only real thing that would catch her eye is that it was "a tree to be desired to make one wise..."  But my question is.... Did it make them wiser?  Already, Adam was wise enough to name every animal, wise enough to obey God's instruction, wise enough to appreciate God's gift of a wife; but now they want a fruit to make them wise. It didn't help their child rearing abilities, it didn't help them in gardening, and it didn't help Eve in child bearing. They didn't get wiser... they were dumbed down!   2) DEPRAVED HUMANITY- Gen. 6:12 tells us that "all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth." Now, there was no bad TV, Internet, Films, Magazines, Hollywood, Malls, or other "sources" of evil thoughts and actions... and yet, they were corrupt. It all comes from the heart, and everything else is just an avenue of releasing the hearts own evil. The heart will make it's own way to release it's evil and the land was filled with violence because of it. This shows us the depravity of man.   3) THE LORD SCATTERED THEM - Gen. 11:8 tells us: "So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth:" People did not have to travel over land bridges to each Island or continent, but God supernaturally "scattered" them upon the face of the earth. That is how they got to those Islands, to the new world, to South America, to China, to Australia, to the Philippines and Japan and Hawaii. God scattered them! So simple when we just read the Bible and believe it all makes perfect sense.   Hope you have a great day!  Pastor Mike Mutchler
