Deuteronomy

Deuteronomy means "second law".  It is not another law, but the ten commandments are repeated and the law is explained again.  You see since Exodus 20 when the law was first given, 40 years have passed by and a whole generation has died off.  Now a new generation is taught the law.  Here are some of the thoughts I lingered on as I looked at this book again.

1) DON'T ADD, DON'T SUBTRACT!  When it comes to God's Word, it is Holy.  We don't mess with it!  We don't add to it, and we don't subtract from it.  In Deut. 12:32, the Bible says:  "What things soever I command you, observe to do it:  thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it."  This is still true; we are not to mess with God's Holy, Inspired, Inerrant, Authoritative, Preserved, WORD.  Believe it and obey it.... that is our marching orders.

2) CONSIDER THE POOR- Deut. 15:7 says:  "thou shalt not harden thine heart, nor shut thine hand from thy poor brother:"  Jesus said "Call the poor...".  Proverbs 19:17  "He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again."  Psalms 41:1   "Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble."   Psalms 112:9  "He hath dispersed, he hath given to the poor; his righteousness endureth for ever; his horn shall be exalted with honour."   Don't judge the poor, help them.  Even IF the adults caused their poverty.... should their children suffer because of it?  Should we not help them?  Yesterday, my wife told me we had 270 people come for a food box.  We do this twice a month, and it is growing because of the economy.  It cost us a lot, but Jesus takes note when we help the poor!

3) CHOICES- Deut. 30:15 says:  "See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil."  We all have choices... what will you choose?  I would like to have life and good.  Let that be all of our choices today.

Hey, walk with God today.  Spend time thinking about God and His goodness.  Talk to Him.  May God bless!  Pastor Mike Mutchler
