JEREMIAH SPEAKS

I'm on my second cup of coffee in my favorite rocking chair with the lamp shade tilted so I can see better and my reading glasses on.  I have bowl of oatmeal beside me that my dear wife made for me.  I rarely eat breakfast, but I know it is healthy to do so.  Jeremiah is a book of judgment.  God is upset with Israel for not "obeying His voice".  That theme is seen over and over. (Jeremiah 7:23, 24, 28; and many other verses in other chapters.  Here are some thoughts:

1) Jesus often quoted Old Testament passages:  Jeremiah 7:11 "Is this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes?  Behold, even I have seen it, saith the LORD."  Remember Jesus casting out the money changers?  This verse is what He quoted.

2) Perpetual Backsliding- Jer.8:5- "Why then is this people of Jerusalem slidden back by a perpetual backsliding? they hold fast deceit, they refuse to return."  So sad, and yet also interesting that even God is trying to figure out WHY people are stuck on backslidding.  He does everything for us, every blessing comes from His hand, and yet so many Christians are found in a backslidden condition.  Cold hearts, no devotional life, inconsistant in church involvement or completely lacking, and no real answer...  God must scratch His head at times and just wonder "why?".

3) Jeremiah 10:23 "it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps".  We think we can plan out our lives, but we are sorely mistaken.  The Bible tells us that "the steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD".  He makes the plans, not us.  We simply choose to obey or disobey.  The decisions and the consquences are ours.

4) Jeremiah 23:24-"Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD.  Do not I fill heaven and earth?  saith the LORD."  How BIG is GOD?  Well, He is big enought to fill heaven and earth!  I think that is also big enough to meet our needs today.  Don't you think so?

I hope you have a victorious day today in Jesus Christ.  I will see you tomorrow.  Pastor Mutchler
