PSALMS 5
It is a beautiful Sunday morning in Oregon. A Memorial Weekend, and I'm looking forward to Church today. I'm not sure what to expect as far as the crowd is concerned, but I'm looking forward to being with God's people. I started off reading in chapter six of Psalms today, so I'm devoting the whole time on that Psalms. Here is the thrust of it: A CRY FOR HELP- This short Psalms of ten verses, is a cry for help from David. He is pleading with God to help him from man. David is hurting here and he lets us know it. He says: "I am weak" (vs. 2); "my bones are vexed" (vs. 2); "My soul is also sore vexed" (vs. 3); "all the night make I my bed to swim" (vs. 6); "the LORD hath heard the voice of my weeping" (vs. 8). Here we see when David is hurting, he is not just showing a world he is hurting.... He is putting his hurt on display to the God of Creation! While we may get sympathy from man, we cannot be helped by man. David skips man as a source of comfort and help, and goes straight to the source.... GOD! He is sharing his hurt with God, knowing that God is the only source of help. We cannot think that because man knows our plight that all will be well. It will not! We should hold our hurt back from man, but lay all of our hurt at the feet of Jesus Christ who loves us. "Casting all your care upon him, for he careth for you." I Peter 5:7 David teaches us to go to God. Cry out to Him, and He will hear! He concludes this short chapter by warning his enemies to depart, because God will hear his prayer and soon it will be they who are "sore vexed". God can defend us, heal us, and prosper us! **ONE OTHER NOTE: These problems came from his enemies, but he could have been the source of their strife. In verse one David says: "O LORD, rebuke me not in thine anger, neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.." David has angered God or at least been disappointing God. Maybe this is why his enemies have arisen; but, whatever the cause, David still shows us that the answer is to humbly go to God and request His help and share your hurts. WE have a God who cares!! Have a blessed day today in the LORD! Pastor Mike Mutchler |
