SONG OF SOLOMON

Today is Sunday!  I'm looking forward to the day the LORD has for me and the good people of Grand View Baptist Church.  What we have been experiencing is nothing short of miraculous.  What a wonderful time we have been having each and every Sunday.  I read the Song of Solomon today, and I have a few things I marked up to share.  Here they are:
1) REPETITIVE PHRASES- In the Song of Solomon, there are several repetitive phrases that I had not noticed before.  Let me share some of them with you:
"Thou art fair:" is mentioned four times in 1:15,16; 4:1;  "Behold, thou art fir, my love; behold, thou art fair; thou hast doves' eyes." (1:15)  "Behold, thou art fair, my love; behold, thou art fair; thou hast doves' eyes..." (4:1)
"I charge you, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, by the roes, and by the hinds of the field, that ye stir not up, nor awake my love, till he please."  (2:7)  Now, (3:5)  "I charge you, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, by the roes, and by the hinds of the field, that ye stir not up, nor awake my love, till he please."  Same!
"I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, that ye stir not up, not awake my love, until he please."  Similar
"I sought him" 3:1,2; 5:6
"I sought him, but I found him not"  3:1,2
"I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem"  2:7; 3:5; 5:8; 8:4
"my sister, my spouse" 4:9,10,12; 5:1
"I am my beloved's" 6:3; 7:10
"Return" Mentioned four times in 6:13 "Return, return, O Shulamite; return, return,..."
Solomon uses repetitive phrases to drive home a truth.  God's Word is what we need to hear and read over and over so that it sticks with us!  We need to hear it many, many times.  I have never noticed the many repetitive phrases in this book of only 8 chapters.

2) LOVE- Song of Solomon 8:7- "Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it:  if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned."  Solomon longed for love, and yet he seemed to have so little of it.  Having sought for pleasure from every source and only come up with the conclusion of "all is vanity and vexation spirit"  Eccl. 2:26 and Eccl. 12:8 "Vanity of vanities, saith the preacher; all is vanity."
Solomon even said:  "Therefore I hated life"  Eccl. 2:17 and "Yea, I hated all my labour"  Eccl. 2:18.  He valued love, but never had it.  He longed for what his father and mother had.  David and Bathsheba.  Now, here what he says in Ecclesiastes 9:9 about love:  "Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity:  for that is thy portion in this life, and in they labour which thou takest under the sun."  He sang the praises of love, and wrote Song of Solomon about love... but never had it.  He had loves... but not love.  Stick with your mate and love them!

Well, so much for today.  Have a blessed day!   Pastor Mike Mutchler
