PSALMS

Today is Thursday.  I so enjoyed Church last night as we Walked Through The Bible.  I shared the books of Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Lamentations.  I know that is a lot to cover, but I was able to share with our church the main message and outline of all three of these books.  It is enjoyable just to do a survey of the Bible.  Today I am still in Psalms.  I have one more day left and then off to Proverbs.  Here are some thoughts to share with you today:

1) THE LORD HAS TO BUILD IT- Psalms 117:1 says:  "Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it; except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain."  Doing all we know to do, the LORD has to build the home and keep the city.  So, not only do we do all we know to do, but we must look to the LORD to do what only He can do.  He CAN build a home, and He CAN keep a city!  Let us humbly look to God to do what only He can do.

2) GOD DID WHAT HE PLEASED- Psalms 135:6 says:  "Whatsoever the LORD pleased, that did he in heaven, and in earth, in the seas, and all deep places."  This verse reminds me of:  Revelation 4:11  "Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created."  What God has created, He created for His pleasure.  He has a purpose and a plan for everything and God is in control of everything.  Let us rest in His arms, knowing that "he doeth all things well".  He is a God we can trust.  He loves us!  He has our interest at heart.  Rest soundly in His hand knowing that no man can pluck you out.  He made you like he made you, because it pleased Him to do so.  You please Him!  Rest in that!

3) FOR EVER!  In Psalms 136, we see that 26 times in all 26 verses, we see the phrase:  "for his mercy endureth for ever."  I think God is trying to tell us something about His mercy.... it lasts forever!!  Don't ever think that it will run out on you.  It is here forever.

4) THE LOWLY AND THE PROUD- Each of these gets God's attention.  One positive, and one negative.  Psalms 138:6, has another way of putting it:  "Though the LORD be high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly:  but the proud he knoweth afar off."  You can be lowly and be unknown by the world, but known by God!  You can accomplish little on earth, but be lowly, and have accomplished much in the mind of God.  He giveth respect to the lowly!  You can be successful on earth, but proud; and God knows little of you, for He knoweth you afar off.  You can be famous on earth, and little known in Heaven.  What do you want?  What will you choose?  Everyday we must face whether to be lowly or proud.  Do you serve God out of love, or to be seen and appreciated by others?  Let God be your private audience.  Live your life for an audience of ONE!!  I choose lowly.  How about you?

Well, hope these simple but profound truths blessed your heart and challenged you as they do me.  May God bless you my dear friend.    Pastor Mike Mutchler
