I CHRONICLES 24
Another beautiful day in Oregon! I started reading in I Chron. 24 today, and here are a few thoughts: 1) THE DIVISION OF THE SONS OF AARON- This chapter reminds us that Aaron had four sons. Two of the died before having children: Nadab and Abihu. This left Eleazar and Ithamar. Eleazar had sixteen chief men in the family as of the times of David, King of Israel; and Ithamar, had eight chief men in his descendants. Zadok, of Eleazar, and Abimelech, of Ithamar, were the two high priest in David's day. Now, these 24 chief men in all were put in rotatation for service to the house of God and the things of God. Just like firemen work shifts, these priest worked shifts around the clock for the house of God. They worked shifts that Aaron wrote down as God commanded him. (vs. 19). Here again, we are learning but one thought.... it takes a lot of people to work in a church! 2) REST OF THE SONS- In verse 20 through 31, it gives us the rest of the sons of Levi who were not among the families of the 24 chiefs. Not the thought here is that it takes a few chiefs, but a whole lot of other workers. There were man more "rest of the sons of Levi" than chiefs. All of us have a place of service for God.... let us find it and be busy! Pastor Mike Mutchler |
