WEDNESDAY IN THE PSALMS

I'm half way through Psalms today, and it is an enjoyable journey.  The Word of God is so precious and real.  The Holy Spirit speaks to you as the Word of God is read.  Here are just a few thoughts for today:

1) WHERE DID THEY CROSS?  In the book of Psalms, there are many references to the Red Sea.  This was such a great miracle that David points to it often.  In Psalms 77:16, it says: "The waters saw thee, O God, the waters saw thee; they were afraid: the depths also were troubled."  When the waters saw God and knew that God was with Moses, they parted for Moses, the people, and GOD to pass through!  Remember that God traveled with Moses.  (as He does with us!)  But where they crossed is the mystery.  The problems is that none of the cities named still exist and so there is no direct evidence for where the crossing took place.  For a liberal theologian there is also a problem with the Red Sea.  The Red Sea is very deep!  At one point it has a trough going through the middle of it that goes down 9,600 feet!  I'm told that the average depth of the Red Sea is 2,200 feet!  The average!!  So you see it would take a great big God to part these waters!!  The east wind did not do the work though it helped moved the people across so quickly.... the waters saw God and retreated!  In verse 19 we read: "They way is in the sea, and thy path in the great waters, and thy footsteps are not known."  Know one knows where God's footprints went across.... many speculate.  Some put the path above the Red Sea and actually across dry ground!  But the Bible says "depths" so we know it was not there!!  Where you think they crossed is as much, in large measure, depends upon how much faith you have and how big your God is that you serve.  I have no problem having them cross at the deepest point!  God will make a way, and He did!!   He will also make a way for us dear friend as we too cross the depths of life.  Psalms 69:2  "I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing: I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me."  We too face the deep waters of life... but here too, God gives us a promise: Isaiah 43:2  "When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee."
Look to God today and know that He will get you safely to the other side!   Pastor Mike Mutchler
