JEREMIAH 9-28

Another day, another time spent in God's Word.  In Jeremiah still, but enjoying it as well.  Here are a few thoughts:
1) Jeremiah 14:17 "Let mine eyes run down with tears night and day, and let them not cease".  Jeremiah is called the "weeping prophet".  He weeps for the plight of his people.  The nation has fallen away from God and now are being judged.
2) Jeremiah 17:14 "Heal me, O LORD, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved: for thou art my praise."  All hope is from God.  Here the prayer is to the Lord to heal and He alone is the source.
3) WANTING TO QUIT!  Yes, Jeremiah reached a point where he wanted to quit.  In Jer. 20:7-9 he states what was taking place and why he wanted to quit, but in verse 9 he says: "Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name.  But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay."  he said... "I'm going to quit!"  But... he could not for God's Word was like a fire in his hearts and in his bones so he could not quit!  You ever feel like quiting? Well, many do if not all, but the key is we don't do what we think!  Don't throw in the towel, hang on dear brother in Christ.
4) Wear the Yoke- In Jeremiah 27 & 28, God told Jeremiah to make a yoke of wood as an illustration that the nation of Israel should put their neck into the yoke of Babylon and go quietly into captivity because God has already decreed it.  But in Chapter 28 another prophet named Hananiah takes the yoke of wood off of Jeremiah's neck and breaks it saying that God will break the yoke of Babylon from off Israel's neck.  After this, God told Jeremiah to make a yoke of iron now.  In 28:13 "Go and tell Hananiah, saying, Thus saith the LORD; Thou hast broken the yokes of wood; but thou shalt make for them yokes of iron."  Now, here is the lesson for us:  Whatever comes your way, put your neck in the yoke knowing that God is in charge of your life and has your best interest at heart.

Well, so much for today... have a great day in the LORD.  Pastor Mike Mutchler
