GENESIS 21-40

Today I marked down a few truths to share, and here they are:

1) BORDERS MADE SURE- When Abraham purchased property to bury Sarah, he paid the money and then made the boundaries sure.  Gen. 23:17 says:  "... that were in all the borders round about, were made sure."  and in verse 20 it says:  "And the field, and the cave that is therein, were made sure unto Abraham for a possession of a buryingplace by the sons of Heth."  Now concerning this, I had two thoughts:  a. We need to make our borders sure!  There should be borders in our lives as Christians that we do not cross.  Borders in our marriages that we do not cross.  Borders in our business dealings that we do not cross.  We need to make our borders sure!  b. Then the second thought was of another cave that was made sure.  It was where Jesus was laid.  The Bible says:  Matthew 27:65-66  "Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch: go your way, make it as sure as ye can.  66  So they went, and made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, and setting a watch."  But, they did not make it sure enough!  Jesus came forth from this grave!

2) REHOBOTH-Genesis 26:22  "And he removed from thence, and digged another well; and for that they strove not: and he called the name of it Rehoboth; and he said, For now the LORD hath made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land."  Here was a well that Isaac dug and finally the men of the area did not contest this well.  So, Isaac calls it:  Rehoboth.  Meaning:  "The LORD hath made room for us".  It means:  Room.  I'm so glad that God has made room for us when He planned out Salvation.  I'm thrilled that God has made room for us when He planned out Heaven.  I'm so glad that God has made room for us when He planned out His Church.   Never fear dear Christian, God has made room for you!!

3) LEAH-Genesis 29:17  "Leah was tender eyed; but Rachel was beautiful and well favoured."  Leah was "tender eyed".  This means she was tender hearted, soft hearted, weak of looks.  Rachel was "beautiful and well favoured".  Now, most all Christians are more like Leah than Rachel.  There are some beautiful people in Christianity, but most of us are much more like Leah.  We are average.  We are plain.  We are not much to look at, or even to notice.  This was Leah.  But... she married Jacob first.  She had children first.  She had a child named Judah, who children would include David, King of Israel one day in the future, and then Jesus, the King of kings one day in Bethlehem.  Rachel was buried under a tree, but Leah was buried in the burial tomb of Abraham, Sarah, and Isaac, and Rebecca.  She had the place of honor.  Though plain, God highly exalted her!  God can do the same for us too!

4) FORGOTTEN KINDNESS- In Genesis 40:23, it says:  "Yet did not the chief butler remember Joseph, but forgat him."  This is about Joseph who tells the butler his dream while in prison and the butler gets restored to his previous position with Pharaoh.  Joseph pleads with him to remember him when he gets restored to his position in verses 14 & 15.  But, according to Chapter 41:1, he forgets him for two full years.  I thought as I read this..... how many people have I forgotten their kindness?   I'm afraid we are all guilty so many times.  Let us work at not being forgetful of the many kindnesses we are shown by others.  Let us with thankful hearts, remember their kindness and be responsive towards it.

May God bless you dear friend!  Have a blessed day.  Pastor Mike Mutchler
