EXODUS-THE EXODUS
The second ten chapters of Exodus deals with just that, the exodus of the Israelites from Egypt. That is where the name of the book comes in. In chapter 20, we have the law given by God to Moses for the people to follow. In reading chapters 11-20 today, I have just a few things to share that I've not shared before. There are many good things that I have shared before, but those I will skip over today. Hope you are having a great day today. 1) THEY SPOILED THE EGYPTIANS- In Exodus 12:35 it says: "and they borrowed jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment." This was in obedience to what God told them to do in Exodus 11:2 "Speak now in the ears of the people, and let every man borrow of his neighbour, and ever woman of her neighbour, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold." And, before Moses ever went to Pharaoh God said in Exodus 3:22 "But every woman shall borrow of her neighbour, and of her tht sojourneth in her house, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and rainment: and ye shall put them upon your sons, and upon your daughters; and ye shall spoil the Egyptians." And now, in Exodus 12:36 it says: "And they spoiled the Egyptians." Why did God want them to go loaded down with gold, silver, and precious stones and rainment? Well, two fold. One, God didn't want them to look like servants anymore, but like children of the King... the King of kings. Second, God was looking ahead to the Tabernacle that would be built and knew that the gold, silver, purple, blue, and scarlet garments would be needed to sew together to build the tent that would be the Tabernacle of the LORD. God gives us wealth to give to His House! That is still why we as Christians give like we do today. It is given us to give to God's work! 2) THAT GREAT WORK- This is how the crossing of the Red Sea is discribed in Exodus 14:31- "And Israel saw that great work which the LORD did upon the Egyptians: and the people feared the LORD, and believed the LORD, and his servant Moses." God did a great work to show the people a Great God. God wants to manifest His greatness to us as His children. He did so in Creation, He did so in the Flood, He did so in the ten plagues, He did so in the Red Sea, He did so in the water out of the rock, He did so with the Sun standing still, He did so in the death angel killing a whole army, He did so with Gideon and 300 slaying the Midianites, He did so with a lad killing Goliah, He did so with a virgin having a son... Jesus, He did so by raising the dead and walking on water, and He did so by raising Himself (Jesus) from the dead. We serve a Mighty God who can do that great work! AND... He wants to do a great work in your life as well!! 3) DAILY BREAD- Exodus 16:21 says: "And they gathered it every morning, every man according to his eating:..." If they gathered for two days, "it bred worms, and stank" (vs. 20) Only on the day before the Sabbath could they gather for two days and it be good. The idea is that God wanted them to trust Him daily! Jesus said in the model prayer: "Give us this day our daily bread". God wants us to trust Him daily for all of our needs! Trust Him dear friend, He is trustworthy! Hope you have a blessed day! Pastor Mike Mutchler |
