LUKE

I'm in Luke today.  I'm spending more time at home this morning.  Our school has been closed because of the flu that is spreading around, and so I told the healthy staff to come in later.  This gave me one more hour of sleep (praise God!), and another half hour longer to spend in Bible study (praises!).  I enjoy them both:  Sleep and Bible study.  Don't ask me which I love more, because I'm not always giving the "spiritual" answer.  Sometimes, I'm just tired.  I've been thinking about "a solitary place" the last day since I wrote about it yesterday, and hoping for some cabin in the woods or desert to spend a few days with God alone sometime.  Anyway, I can dream about it.  I'm in Luke, and here is a thought or two:

1) WHAT SHALL WE DO?  This question was asked by the people, the publicans, and the soldiers of Jesus.  In each case in Luke chapter three, Jesus told them what they should do.  I guess we should wake up each morning, saying:  "Master, what shall we do?"  God certainly has a plan for each day of our lives.  We want to fulfill His perfect will, and each day has a plan.  Let's do it!

2) TO BE WORTHY, YOU SHOULD BE "NOT WORTHY"- In Luke 7, we have the story of the centurion's servant who was sick and came to Jesus for help.  The soldier sent for the elders of the Jews to go to Jesus on his behalf and they said to Jesus in verse 4: "That he was worthy for whom he should do this:"    But, as Jesus was going to his house, the centurion sent friends to say:  "Lord, trouble not thyself:  for I am not worthy that thous shouldest enter under my roof:  Wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto thee:  but say in a word, and my servant shall be healed."  The leaders said he was worthy because "He loveth our nation, and he hath built us a synagogue."  But the centurion himself, knew that he was not worthy to be in the presence of Jesus.  Now, here is the key:  IF we feel worthy, we are not!  IF we don't feel worthy, they our humility makes us worthy for Christ to work in us.  The key to usefulness in humility.  Gifts and abilities take a back seat to humility every time.  Let us walk humbly in God's presence and in the presence of men.

3) GOD'S SIMPLE PLAN FOR THE SOUL WINNING CHURCH  Luke 14:23 "Go out unto the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled."  The goal is to reach all we can reach for Christ.  Let's go get them!

This is all I can write today.  Hope you have a blessed day in the LORD!  Pastor Mike Mutchler
