I & II Corinthians
I'm reading in I and II Corinthians today, and here are a few highlights: 1) HEADSHIP- I Cor. 11:3 says: "But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God." God has a chain of command and it is called "headship". Christ is over man; Man is over woman; The Father is over the Son. This is God's chain of command. Now, will we fight it or submit to it? That is the only question. Not whether it is right or wrong.... it is right because God's Word says it. Now to submit to that headship is to come under that protection. If men do not submit to Christ, then if their wives submit to them they are still standing under an umbrella that hasn't even been opened. We had best figure out what God wants, what God blesses, and start doing that! 2) EARTHEN VESSELS- In II Cor. 4:7 it says: "But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us." Now the treasure is what is inside of us, but at our best, we are earthen vessels. Let me tell you something about earthen vessels.... they crack, they are broken, they are damaged easily, etc. But the power we have is not from our vessels, but from the treasure the indwells us. In chapter 5:1, it says: "For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens." In this life, we will get damaged, broken, banged up, dented, scratched, cracked, and one day dissolved... but oh, what happens next! This glorious treasure that indwells us will one day take us on a journey that ends in the presence of our Savior. This glory that indwells us will one day surround us for all eternity! We shall dwell in the presence of the LORD God Almighty! But, until that day..... expect... yes, expect to hurt, to be damaged, to have loved ones hurt, etc. This earthen vessel is pretty weak and damages easily, but the damage cannot get to the treasure! When I was a child we sang a song in our music class in fifth grade: "I am a poor wayfaring stranger, While traveling through this world of woe. Yet there's no sickness, toil nor danger In that bright world to which I go. I'm going there to see my Father; I'm going there no more to roam." So dear child of God, let the earthen vessel take it's licks...it is only temporary... and one day the eternal begins for us anew! 3) IT'S ANOTHER!- False beliefs are not another path to truth. It's another way and ends in a dead end and destruction. II Cor. 11:4 says: "For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, who we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him." Verse three tells us that these "anothers" are just to beguile and corrupt us. Don't be led by "another" truth, but stick with the same ole truths found in the same ole book, the Bible! Have a blessed day today, wherever you are and stay faithful to our LORD this day!! Today,.... hear His voice.... heed His Word. Love you and God bless! Pastor Mike Mutchler |
