JOSHUA
I enjoyed reading in Joshua once again this morning and it has a wealth of insights and truths that speak to my heart, but I only have a little time this morning to write so let me get right to the things that spoke to me this morning: 1) KEEP WALKING- Joshua 1:3 says: "Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses." Because of this promise, they should keep walking to inherit more land. Such is the Christian life... keep growing! The more we grow the more we learn and obtain the sweet promises and blessings of God. The key to real joy in the Christian Life is to keep walking in the things of God. 2) THE HARLOT WITH A HEART- In Joshua 2 we see Rahab the Harlot. Now that is what the Bible calls her, so that's how it is, but there is always a story behind the story, and we don't know what trials and tragedies befell her that made her choose this life, but we know that God, who is rich in mercy, had a different plan for her life!! Praise God!! He has a different plan for our lives as well! In verse 13 she asks: "And that ye will save alive my father, and my mother, and my brethren, and my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death." She had a heart for her family. We too should have a heart for our family. I know I love dearly my father and mother. I love my two sisters and my brother. I love my children and my grandchildren. She was a harlot, but had a big heart!! We should not do less. In chapter 6:23, all in her household was spared. Her whole family was spared because of her act of hiding the two spies who entered Jericho. BUT... that's not all. She too was spared... not just from death... but from her profession as a harlot. She married a man named Salmon, who had a son named Boaz, who had a son from a lady named Ruth named Obed who had a son named Jesse, who had a son named David... King David!! Rahab became part of the lineage of Jesus Christ!! God in His mercy was not through with her life, and He is not through with ours as well!! Praise God!! 3) Last one for today: Joshua 13:14 & 33. The Levites did not receive an inheritance of land. But, their inheritance was: "the sacrifices of the LORD God of Israel made by fire" (vs. 14) and "the LORD God of Israel was their inheritance" (vs. 33) They had the meat and such from the sacrifices and they had the LORD as their inheritance. It doesn't get any better than to have the LORD as ones inheritance. Well, you have a blessed day!! Pastor Mike Mutchler |
