LEVITICUS & NUMBERS

I finished Leviticus and started into Numbers a ways today.  I'm on my second cup of coffee and I'm still one day behind in my blog, but I will catch up soon.  I started in chapter 12 of Leviticus.  And Leviticus is a book of instruction.  The Law was given in Exodus, but explain further in Leviticus and brought down to practical everyday living.  It deals with things the Israelites had to deal with.  For instance, leprosy.  It is referred to in chapters 13 and 14.  Nineteen time in chapter 13 the priest is to "pronounce him unclean" or "pronounce him clean", and there are nineteen different examples of when to do so.  Interesting, but we will probably not need to memorize it!  Chapter 16 deals with the two goats for the sin offering once a year.  Both goats had hands put on them representing the sins of the people.  One goat was sacrificed and one goat was led into the wilderness to wander all his days.  (this was the scapegoat)  This illustrates how Christ paid for our sins, and then also removed our sins from us never to be seen again!!  Talk about Salvation being complete!!  This is a beautiful picture.  In Chapter 17, we see the importance of the blood. Verse 11 says:  "For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls:  for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul."  One famous preacher on the radio said about 20 years ago that the death of Christ is what saves us and that the shedding of His blood was not really necessary, He could have died another way, and His blood was not special.  Well, to that all fundamental preachers said:  Wrong!!  Even in the Old Testament which is a type for all that Christ fulfilled it states plainly the necessity of the blood sacrifice.  The lamb was killed by sheding blood, and that blood made an atonement for the soul of man.  Jesus was the perfect Lamb of God, and the shedding of His blood on Calvary, and later applied in Heaven to our sinful account before the Father, paid our sin debt!!  It is all important!!

WHAT ABOUT GETTING A TATTOO?  Well, Lev. 19:28 says:  "ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you:  I am the LORD."  I think that answers that!  Lev. 22:24 tells us the lamb offered could not be flawed:  "Ye shall not offer unto the LORD that which is bruised, or crushed, or broken, or cut:  neither shall ye make any offering thereof in your land."  It had to be a lamb without blemish!

In Numbers, we see the 12 tribes counted in chapter one, the positioning of the camp in chapter two, the numbering of the Levites in chapter three, and the number of workers between 30 and 50 that waited on the tabernacle in chapter four.  AND, I start with chapter five tomorrow!   Hope you  have a blessed day!!   Dr. Mike Mutchler
