Isaiah 53 - Jer. 6

I've got my coffee cup right beside me. It is my second cup so far this morning. I started reading my Bible in Isaiah 53, and finished up with Jeremiah chapter 6. That gave me my twenty chapters today. I've read so much good stuff this morning. I could spend days just writing down the verses and thoughts that God spoke to me while I read His precious Word. Isa. 58:6 talks about fasting. Fasting is used to "loose the bands of wickedness, and to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke".
This is not psychology, this is God's Word. Fasting is used to break addictive, sinful behavior and to undo heavy burdens. Fasting is not mentioned much anymore, but it still gets God's attention and does us a world of spiritual good. The last few chapters of Isaiah describe the 1,000 year reign of Christ on the earth after the tribulation. The "wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock". "They shall not hut nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD." Sounds like Christ will be in control and the gangs, thugs, extremist, terrorist are not!! Looking forward to that day. Amen! Many verses jumped out at me, but here is the one that spoke to me the most today: Isa. 66:2 "but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word." WOW. Here is how to get God's attention. God says "to this man will I look". That's what I want! I want to so walk with God that I have his attention and He has mine. Three things I've got to do according to this verse: 1) Have a poor spirit (humility); 2) Have a contrite spirit (brokenness over my sins; a repentant behavior); and 3) Tremble at God's Word. (this means to see the Bible as God's Holy Word, and seek to obey it and let it speak to me. It means to take every word of it as God's marching orders for my life, and carefully seek to apply it to my everyday life. Or I should say, to apply my life to God's Word.) Well, my coffee is getting cold, and I don't like cold coffee. See you tomorrow, have a blessed day! Pastor Mutchler
